Zappar and Playnation partner to bring holiday park characters to life

Zappar, a leader in augmented reality (AR) enabled products and entertainment experiences, has partnered with Playnation and Park Resorts to launch an interactive treasure hunt for young visitors to Camber Sands Holiday Park.

By using Zappar’s free smartphone and tablet app, children and parents can ‘zap’ a series of posters located around the park to unlock engaging AR content. A 3D animation of Park Resorts’ mascot Sparky accompanies children through the hints and tips provided on each poster, to encourage them to explore the park, find the next checkpoint and successfully win one of many prizes including Playnation arcade tickets. Each checkpoint also unlocks a new and interactive experience, from mini-games to “selfie challenges” which allow adventurers to pose with pom poms and confetti or even Sparky himself.

With activity spanning the entirety of the Park, and checkpoints located in popular spots such as the swimming pool and adventure playground, the Zappar app will turn the site into an immersive AR experience – a first for Park Resorts.

Max Dawes, Partnerships Director at Zappar said: “Working with Playnation and Park Resorts has been enormous fun. Bringing to life an iconic mascot such as Sparky is a great example of how our tech can be used to add an extra layer of excitement to holiday activities and create lasting memories for children.”

Eric Doherty, Retail Director at Playnation, added: “In a competitive market it’s important that we keep our attractions as appealing and exciting to children as possible. We’re really pleased with the interactive element that Zappar and AR has allowed us to bring to the children’s treasure hunt.  Not only does it encourage kids to explore the world around them, but also helps bring them closer to characters such as Sparky, making their visit to the Park Resort one to remember.”
