Woody’s modernises with Brunswick
Cemantha and Ron Woody of Buckhannon enjoyed bowling at their local centre so much that they began to joke with one of the owners about buying the place. As it turned out, the longtime owners had been considering selling the centre. The next thing they knew, the Woodys found themselves in the bowling business.
“We wanted to keep the bowling center open for the community and especially for the kids in our community,” said Cemantha Woody.
In August 2018, the Woodys purchased Buckhannon Lanes from the previous owners, who had kept the centre in the family for 56 years. Renovations began immediately, and Woody’s Bowling Centre opened in November of the same year.
The Woodys opted for a retro feel, keeping much the same while breathing some new life into the centre. Additions included more arcade games and installation of ovens to add pizza to the snack bar menu. Perhaps the biggest change was the introduction of Brunswick’s Sync scoring and management system.
“We looked at two other scoring systems and chose Sync,” said Cemantha. “We thought it was the best value, since it goes above and beyond in terms of the features it offers. We love what it brings to our customers, and the marketing and other tools it provides for us.”
“Sync is the clear innovator,” said Scott Meier, Brunswick Bowling Products, Global Product Manager — Scoring and Cloud. “From automated marketing and games to full-service POS and back-office support, Sync does it all. Sync Invicta, the next generation of Sync, is a software-driven innovation that is poised to keep guests on-site longer and returning more often, increase guest loyalty, help centres attract more group events and improve staff efficiency.”
For the Woodys, choosing Brunswick as their partner was an easy choice. “We chose Brunswick because of our terrific salesperson, the service, and the quality of the product,” said Cemantha. “Being able to trust your vendor, being on the same page, is very important to us.”
