Themed Entertainment Associations opens Thea submissions

The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) is accepting submissions for the 29th Annual Thea Awards.

The Thea Awards celebrate excellence in the themed entertainment sector, recognising distinction and innovation in the sector and international visitor attractions industry. The awards are designed to showcase how international audiences can be engaged by reinforcing the value of experience design and themed entertainment approaches.

A TEA representative said: “Each year hundreds of submissions are received and considered by the TEA Thea Awards Judging Committee for outstanding destination attractions, breakthrough technology, event spectaculars, cultural attractions or guest experiences, as well as for individuals who have made their mark through a lifetime of distinguished achievements.”

The Thea Catalyst Award will also return this year. It will be awarded to an individual who has made a recent and important impact which benefits the themed entertainment industry.

A TEA representative added: “This is the award for dreamers and doers who have impacted or have influenced the creation of experiences.”

Nominations are now open until July 8. Eligible projects for the 29th cycle will need to have taken place in the two-year period between July 1 2020 and June 30 2022. A successful list of recipients will be announced in November, followed by a formal presentation of awards in Spring 2023 at the 29th Annual Thea Awards Gala, with a venue yet to be announced. The TEA has produced a guide with tips for Thea submissions, and has also released its rules and judging criteria for the awards. Entries are free of charge and can be proposed through a dedicated submission portal.
