Government recognises importance of immersive media industry to the UK economy with inclusion in exclusive trade mission to SXSW

The UK’s most disruptive immersive media businesses have been shortlisted for a trade mission by the Department for International Trade to attend the world-renowned SXSW festival and business conference in Austin, Texas. The specially selected businesses flew out to Austin on 10 March for an exclusive opportunity to foster business development and professional growth overseas like never before.

The announcement represents a bold move by the UK government to showcase the growth, innovation and promising future of the UK’s immersive media industry to the US market – with a significant proportion of the cohort leading the way in immersive content creation. Previous SXSW trade missions have brought in £11m and £15m worth of business demonstrating the value of the trip for generating investment in the UK creative industries.

From thousands of applications, Emmy award-winning visual effects studio, Moonraker VFX, is one of the businesses to have made the cut by the Department of International Trade, alongside just eighteen other companies heading to Austin next week.

Based in Bristol, Moonraker’s selection for the Trade Mission Cohort comes at a time of rapid growth for the business, recently investing in the production and creation of its own licensable content for immersive, screen-based experiences. With a trusted reputation working with clients like Apple, Netflix, National Geographic, BBC and Disney, SXSW will provide the studio a new level of brand exposure across the US market, helping to fuel their next stage of growth.

Simon Clarke, co-founder and creative director at Moonraker VFX, commented; “Our invitation to attend SXSW is an incredibly exciting milestone for Mooonraker and a great recognition for the industry as a whole.  As we move into an ever-more virtual world with more choice, we believe that Moonraker has a vital role to play in the creation of exciting visual media that engages and entertains audiences worldwide. We’re proud to be representing the diversity of creative talent across the UK here, alongside several other businesses all at the cutting-edge of the UK creative industry.”
