Creative Lego masterpieces in lockdown

While travel is still a long way off for many Germans, the 20 finalists of the Legoland Family Challenge have created their own fantasy worlds out of Lego bricks. In the final voting, the five winning teams of the construction competition will be determined. The winners will get to enjoy a short vacation at LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort and attend a unique award ceremony in the LEGO model making workshop in Günzburg.

“All the buildings in the LEGOLAND Family Challenge have one thing in common: They invite you to dream away from everyday Corona and into distant worlds. While the participants created real dream holiday destinations out of LEGO bricks in the first round, the 20 finalist teams’ imagination and creativity were required in the second round,” said LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort: in a press statement. Under the motto “Immerse yourself in the realm of fantasy: Build a mystical world of fables out of LEGO bricks”, the families created colourful and detailed art worlds. Only the brick packages with almost 3000 components sent by LEGOLAND were allowed to be used in order to offer all teams the same conditions.

The fantasy worlds of the finalists were eagerly awaited, and not just by those responsible for LEGOLAND. On the LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort website, fans are now spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing the best five. In a total of 818 hours of planning and construction time, the 20 teams created true wonder worlds: Colourful universes full of mythical creatures, rainbow waterfalls, enchanted forests and fantastic hidden worlds.

“The entries included singing unicorn sawfish, tree trolls protecting the kingdom of the elephants and even a fable they invented themselves. It is always impressive to see the ideas slumbering in the minds of the children and how creatively and artfully they can turn them into reality with LEGO bricks, ”says Manuela Stone, Managing Director of LEGOLAND Germany. “It was our endeavour to tease out this creativity through the construction competition and thus also to offer an outlet for the everyday stress, which is stressful for many children due to the pandemic.”

The artworks of the 20 finalists are still available for final voting on the family amusement park website until March 29: www.LEGOLAND.de/voting. Just in time for Easter, the family amusement park will announce the five winning teams. They win all LEGO fans: a family stay at the LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort in Günzburg with an overnight stay in the Pirateninsel Hotel, entry to the amusement park and an exclusive model maker Meet & Greet.
