In a bid to help improve members’ knowledge of issues regarding accessibility, BALPPA has organised workshops at its upcoming trade Leisure FEC and Indoor Play expo.

The body has been working autism specialists Autism Puzzles to offer an Autism Champions Workshop at the upcoming show.

It is sponsored by Morton Michel Insurance and Autism Puzzles, with 10 free places available for the workshop, taking place from 1.30pm till 4.30pm on 27th November at Drayton Manor.

The trade body said in a statement: “The business case for providing your team with training and improving the  information about accessibility to your leisure venue has never been stronger. One in five people in the UK are disabled – that’s 20% of your potential market. And with a massive 31 per cent increase in the number of domestic trips in recent years, and an ageing population, demand is only set to grow with regards to more accessible venues.

“There is a common perception that  improving training and information about accessibility is only about wheelchair users. In reality, less than nine per cent of the UK disabled population uses a wheelchair.

People with autism ,hearing loss, visual or mental impairment, and families with young children also benefit, as will your business as you improve understanding and communication to your customers.”
