Western hemisphere’s biggest indoor ski slope coming to the American Dream mall

The American Dream mall is currently 16 years in the making, raking up a price tag of $3b and covering a total area of 4.5m square-foot – now, it’s set to debut with a whole host of entertainment activities, too. Included at the mall will be the largest indoor ski slope in the western hemisphere, as well as an NHL-sized ice rink, 4D movie theatre, KidZania centre, a Legoland, eight-acre Nickelodeon water park and theme park, and observation wheel with 26 climate-controlled gondolas.

Called Big Snow, the proposed ski slope includes an ice-climbing wall, and has been described as an indoor snow park and chalet, measuring 800ft, 16 stories. American Dream’s NHL regulation-sized ice rink will host hockey and figure skating programming, as well as touring shows, professional skating lessons, private parties and events, and events with the area’s three professional hockey teams.

The eight-acre Nickelodeon Universe theme park will be similar in looks to the Minneapolis’ Mall of America, as both projects share a developer in Triple Five, who have also proposed a $200m indoor water park at the Mall of America.

American Dream’s Observation Wheel is touted to stand almost as tall as the Statue of Liberty, and guests in one of the climate-controlled gondolas will enjoy a 25-minute ride with views across New Jersey.

American Dream is reported to open in the spring of 2019.
