Kalahari adds new interactive slide experience

New Storm Chaser ride features interactive gameplay

Kalahari Resorts and Conventions is launching a new form of interactive waterslide featuring an interactive gaming experience called the Storm Chaser.

The slideboarding ride combines the traditional waterslide with the challenge of a multilevel video game.

“The Storm Chaser represents an additional $1.3 million investment in Kalahari’s Sandusky business, and we plan to continue to push the envelope with bigger and better attractions to draw travellers to the area.”

“The Storm Chaser builds on the thrills of waterpark fun and adds in high-tech gaming in the way people want to play today,” said Thatcher Robertson, director of waterparks, Kalahari Resorts and Conventions. “We’ve combined the exhilaration of an indoor waterslide with the fun of your favorite video game for a revolutionary new experience.”

The slide features a targeted gaming system where riders use a controller to play as they ride a slideboard down the waterslide run. The objective is to hit targets to collect points, while maintaining your speed. The supersmart gaming system knows who is riding, tracks their progress and scores the run down the waterslide. Motion tracking allows for more points to be scored based on the player’s accuracy and proximity to the targets when intersected. The tracking system lets riders build points throughout the day to unlock new levels and compete for the highest overall score.

The Storm Chaser joins several new attractions unveiled this year at Kalahari Resorts and Conventions, Ohio’s Largest Indoor Waterpark, in Sandusky. The resort also recently opened five new slides in the seasonal outdoor waterpark and added halotherapy treatments at Spa Kalahari and Salon.

“We provide a beyond-expectations experience with an exciting mix of slides and adventures for the whole family,” said Todd Nelson, owner of Kalahari Resorts and Conventions. “The Storm Chaser represents an additional $1.3 million investment in Kalahari’s Sandusky business, and we plan to continue to push the envelope with bigger and better attractions to draw travellers to the area.”
