Anansi’s Web brings West African folktales to life in Sacramento

September 8 saw the grand opening of Anansi’s Web at Fairytale Town in Sacramento, California. The new play structure is inspired by West African folktales about Anansi the spider, a trickster god and keeper of stories and wisdom.

Visitors will now be able to enjoy three vertical climbing webs, and spot a leopard, python, turtle, monkey, and Anansi, decorating the structure, which was two years in the making. African drumming and dancing from the Felix Drum and Dance Company made up part of the public opening, as well as a storytelling presentation, and an Anansi the spider performance from the Fairytale Town Troopers.

Anansi’s Web was designed, created, and installed by Sacramento artist Garr Ugalde.
